Privacy Collection Notice

This Privacy Collection Notice ("Notice") is issued in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 ("PDPA") of Singapore. It explains how The Legal Sauce ("TLS", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal data collected through www.thelegalsauce.com (the "Site") and our related activities, including community events, volunteer engagements, and outreach programmes.
By providing us with your personal data, submitting a form on the Site, registering for an event, or otherwise engaging with TLS, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Notice and consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal data as described herein, where such consent is required under the PDPA.
1. What Personal Data We Collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect the following categories of personal data:
- Contact information: name, email address, phone number
- Organisational information: organisation/charity/ground-up name, role or designation
- Event and volunteer information: event registration details, dietary or accessibility requirements, volunteer availability and skills, photographs and video recordings taken during events
- Communications: information you provide when you contact us, submit enquiries, or subscribe to updates
- Technical information: IP address, browser type, device information, and website usage data collected through cookies or similar technologies (where applicable)
We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under the age of majority without appropriate consent (e.g. from a parent or guardian) where required.
2. How We Collect Personal Data
We may collect personal data:
- directly from you, when you fill in a contact form, register for an event, sign up to volunteer, or otherwise communicate with us via the Site, email, or in person;
- through your use of the Site, including via cookies or similar tracking technologies (where applicable); and
- from third parties, such as our partner organisations (for example, BAGUS Together or the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre), where you have registered for a jointly organised event or programme and consented to such information being shared with us.
3. Purposes for Which We Collect, Use, and Disclose Personal Data
We collect, use, and disclose your personal data for the following purposes:
- to respond to your enquiries and communicate with you;
- to register and administer your participation in TLS events, programmes, or volunteer activities;
- to send you updates, newsletters, or information about TLS's activities, where you have opted in to receive such communications;
- to connect organisations in need of legal support with legal volunteers or professionals, where you have consented to being contacted for this purpose;
- to maintain records of our community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and collaborators;
- to produce photographs, videos, and testimonials of our events for publicity, reporting, and promotional purposes (including on our Site, social media, and in reports to our partners and funders), where consent has been obtained;
- to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and requests from regulatory or governmental authorities;
- to improve and administer the Site and our operations; and
- for any other purpose reasonably related to the above, or as otherwise notified to you at the time of collection and for which we have obtained your consent.
4. Consent
4.1 We will, in general, only collect, use, or disclose your personal data with your knowledge and consent, or as otherwise permitted or required under the PDPA (for example, where the collection, use, or disclosure without consent is required or authorised by law).
4.2 Where you provide personal data of a third party to us (for example, when registering another person for an event on their behalf), you represent and warrant that you have obtained the necessary consent from that individual for us to collect, use, and disclose their personal data in accordance with this Notice.
4.3 You may withdraw your consent to our collection, use, or disclosure of your personal data at any time by contacting us at the details in Section 10 below. Please note that withdrawing consent may affect our ability to continue providing certain services to you (for example, event registration or volunteer matching), and we will inform you of the likely consequences at the time of your request.
5. Disclosure of Personal Data
We may disclose your personal data to the following categories of recipients, where necessary for the purposes set out above:
- our core team, volunteers, and advisors, on a need-to-know basis;
- our community partners and co-organisers (such as BAGUS Together, the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, Temasek Foundation, and Tote Board), for jointly organised events or programmes;
- law firms, lawyers, and legal professionals, where you have consented to being connected with legal support;
- third-party service providers who assist us with website hosting, event management, email communications, or similar administrative functions, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data protection obligations; and
- regulatory authorities or law enforcement agencies, where required or permitted by law.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
6. Overseas Transfer of Personal Data
Where your personal data is transferred outside of Singapore (for example, where we use overseas-based service providers for website hosting or communications tools), we will take reasonable steps to ensure that such overseas recipients are bound by legally enforceable obligations to provide a standard of protection comparable to that under the PDPA.
7. Protection of Personal Data
We take reasonable technical, administrative, and physical measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal, or similar risks. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Retention of Personal Data
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or as required or permitted by applicable law. When personal data is no longer needed for these purposes, we will cease to retain it, or anonymise it, in accordance with our internal retention practices.
9. Access and Correction
You may request access to, or correction of, the personal data that we hold about you by contacting our Data Protection point of contact at the details below. We will respond to your request within a reasonable time and in accordance with the requirements of the PDPA. We may charge a reasonable fee for access requests, where permitted under the PDPA.
